Super-Automatic Espresso Equipment

 

‘Super-automatic’ is a term the coffee industry uses to refer to equipment that has automated the grinding and brewing of espresso and the heating and texturing of milk for specialty cafe beverages into one self-contained machine. There are a wide-variety of super-automatic machines and their ability to control (or not control) the basic variables of coffee dose, grind, water temperature, pressure, and volume vary widely. In the past 10yrs or so the ability of this class of equipment to assess and make changes to brewing parameters has grown significantly. Coffee is by nature a volatile product and hard to predict. This equipment attempts to control the basic variables to produce a consistent end product. We carry equipment from Eversys & Egro manufacturers. While there are multiple models within each manufacturers catalog of equipment, we’ve tried to summarize some of the key technologies below.

Eversys - cameo

Eversys developed equipment that has specific controls & automation over shot quality and milk texture. The machines, via a pre-programmed set of parameters, will actively control grind settings shot to shot to keep espresso brewing within desired parameters and texture and control milk temperature to achieve desired milk results. This ensures quality and consistency without the need for manual parameter changes. The touch screen UI allows for customization of the layout and product mix along with easy barista interaction with machine calibration and programming capabilities.

Eversys has a modular based design and uses separate boilers for coffee and steam. This give the machine temperature stability, while also being a service friendly machine that can be easily disassembled for repairs and maintenance.

Egro - one pure coffee

Egro is a long standing manufacturer of super automatic machines. They use multiple boiler technology to stabilize brewing and steaming performance. This super automatic has a touch screen interface that can be programmed to customer specs and a steaming system that automatically textures and heats the milk. Espresso recipes are dialed in manually and minor adjustments are required to maintain spec.
